TORN @ Cannes – Directors’ Fortnight

A closely observed narrative short of two generations  looking for friendship and love in Baku, Azerbaijan – each in their own way. A wistful man (Rasim Jafarov) sends the young Mir Movsum Mirzazade out to replenish their yoghurt supply, which leads to the curly-headed boy being teased by backyard bullies. The boy takes matters in his own hands, which cannot be said of the man, whose courage escapes him at a rooftop date with a beautiful local woman (Zulfiyye Gurbanova).

Directed by Student Oscar winner Elmar Imanov (THE SWING OF THE COFFIN MAKER, 2012) and Engin Kundag (ARARAT, Berlin 2012).  Both graduates of the ifs film school in Cologne, they are now developing Kundag’s first feature film ANGST, with Imanov and TORN producer Eva Blondiau producing.

Azerbaijan/Germany, 22 min, in Azerbaijani with English subtitles, world premiere

Produced by Teymur Hajiyev (FIL PRODUCTION, Azerbaijan) and Eva Blondiau (COLOR OF MAY, Germany)
